The Ontario Ministry of Natural resources has announced that it will be upgrading three forest fire response centres.
These upgrades will include:
- Renovating an existing building and purchasing a nearby aviation hangar for the Sudbury facility
- Relocating the Haliburton Fire Management Headquarters to the nearby Haliburton/Stanhope Municipal Airport, and
- Rebuilding the existing Armstrong Fire Attack Base.
Construction at all three locations is expected to begin later this year and will create construction jobs in all three communities.
Investing in public safety and forest firefighting infrastructure is part of the Ontario government’s plan to support local economies and keep families and communities safe.
Minister, David Orazietti has stated that “Investing in these strategically placed new and modernized facilities, concentrates our personnel and equipment in prime locations for forest fire management.”
